WILTSHIRE'S motorcyclists are being urged to attend riding skill seminars after statistics revealed 24 were killed on the county's roads in the last three years.

A further 261 motorcyclists and pillion riders were injured in the same period. The Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership is calling for riders to sign up for seminars such as the police-run BikeSafe on offer in Devizes.

David Frampton, manager of the partnership's safety camera unit, is focussing on superbike riders. He said: "We're particularly keen to reach the 20 to 40 age group. These riders are killed or suffer serious injuries far more than any other group.

"Superbike riders have the most powerful bikes and may not have ridden for some years. Inappropriate handling of these machines can have lethal consequences."

The BikeSafe seminars are free and motorcyclists will be observed and assessed by police advanced riders. The seminars will also feature presentations and videos.

The first seminar takes place tomorrow with another on May 18.
