TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: STEVE BRUCE'S 35th minute penalty lifted the Taylor Kitchens and Bedrooms sponsored Trowbridge League Division Two Cup for Westbury United A in Tuesday's rain-soaked final against Rudloe at Weymouth Street.

Westbury, however, owed victory to Paul Rendall's goal line clearance four minutes into stoppage time, after a Jason Cole header rebounded off the crossbar and Stuart Hynds' follow-up shot was prevented from crossing the line, and the final going into extra-time, which Rudloe deserved.

In a highly competitive match in which Hynds appeared fortunate not to be red carded following a stoppage time incident with United player manager Andy Goodenough, one of several players booked, there was little between the sides but for the second time in three meetings this season, Rudloe were finally beaten by a dubious looking penalty.

It arrived in the 35th minute after Westbury had clawed themselves back into the exchanges which started with two Matt Dancey headers causing problems for United. Goodenough broke clear, chasing defender Stuart Tutty, and appeared to have challenged fairly in the area but was judged to have fouled the United boss. Bruce made no mistake from the spot.

The cup and medals were presented by competition sponsor Jack Taylor who also sponsored the man of the match award which was won by Rudloe's Paul Newbury.

l TEN-MAN North Bradley Saints completed a cup double after an eventful final in the A M Print and Copy (Westbury)-sponsored Spring Cup at Meadow Lane on Thursday night.

The final, marred by Bromham's Tim Storer being stretchered off with a broken leg following a 40th-minute challenge by Tim Richards, who appeared extremely fortunate not to have received an immediate red card, was further delayed by a second-half floodlight failure.

Saints took a deserved 39-minute lead when Richard Bliha volleyed home but Bromham, last season's beaten finalists, were level soon after the restart with Adam Godwin finishing from six yards.

Bromham then had chances to take the lead as Bradley's Damon Berrelly was sent off within five minutes of coming on as substitute.

But 10-men Saints finished stronger and seven minutes from time Chris Gale headed home Andy Colebrook's free kick before Nick Korynevsky sealed victory with seconds remaining.

Andrew Meaden of the cup sponsors presented the cup and medals, with Bromham's Nick Cawley named man of the match.
