SUPERMARINE Ladies have been sent to Coventry to complete their mission to earn a place in the second division of English women's rugby.

The South Marston side travel to Broadstreet RFC in the Midlands city to play off for one of three prized places in Premiership Two for next season.

RFUW officials have decided on a round-robin tournament to decide on who goes up, meaning Marine have an exhausting schedule if they are to realise their dream.

The unbeaten Midlands One champions will take on the three other regional champions, Blaydon, Chesham and Rosslyn Park, in 30-minute matches to decide the three to get elevated.

The nail-biting format is something of a lottery, allowing just a 15-minute break between matches, litte time to sooth aching limbs or treat any injuries.

Supermarine skipper Alex Parker admitted: "Normally, we would have prepared for 80 minutes, but this is a completely different challenge.

"We're going to have to be with it from the start, but I would say we have the strongest record of the four teams so we should be confident in that respect.

"We do tend to score a lot of points in the first half of our matches, but injuries are going to be the problem.

"We are beset by them and will be slightly depleted.''

However, Parker is convinced the massive incentive on offer will be enough to fire up her squad.

"It's the biggest game in Supermarine Ladies history, I would say,'' she added.

"To get up to national level would be an amazing feat and, I think, good for this area.

"A lot of the players have played here for a long time and they want to have a slice of it.

"And if we did go up, I think we would have every chance of staying up and doing well.''
