PEOPLE in Trowbridge are being invited to get involved in the creation of a sensory garden.

Work on the garden, behind the old town hall now used as the magistrates' court is due to start shortly.

Angela Milroy, chairman of the Sensory Garden Committee, said: "We are hoping to start the construction of the garden in the near future and many people have asked how they can get involved.

"By joining the friends of the garden, people can do as much or as little as they like.

"We want volunteers to help with construction, planting and maintenance, or support with their subscriptions."

The garden is expected to cost about £70,000 and will include elements designed to stimulate peoples' senses.

Trowbridge town council put aside £30,000 for the scheme last year and the finished design could include sculpture, a water feature and education boards, including ones written in brail.

The Friends of Trowbridge Community Sensory Garden will be launched at the Lions Fair on May 3. Annual subscription costs £5, with an annual business subscription available for £10 and life membership costing £25.
