TROWBRIDGE has featured in a major national planning conference highlighting the best examples of urban design.

Members of staff from Wiltshire County Council and Trowbridge Town Council were at the Quality Streetscapes Conference in London on May 1.

Allan Creedy, principal transport and development assistant for Wiltshire County Council, and Trowbridge town clerk Doug Ross, gave a presentation on the town centre improvements currently under way in Trowbridge.

Allan Creedy said: "I am delighted that Wiltshire County Council and Trowbridge Town Council have been invited to take part in this conference.

"We have been working together very closely to make the centre of Trowbridge more pedestrian-friendly and accessible to public transport."

Wiltshire County Council has been working in partnership with Trowbridge Town Council on an ongoing programme of town centre improvements.

Improvements are under way in Roundstone Street and Silver Street where pavements are being widened and the street scene improved.

The aims of the scheme also include regenerating and improving the town centre as well as promoting cycling and walking as an alternative to the car.

The conference, at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, will look at the most creative schemes for the planning and design of streetscapes and other urban spaces, illustrated by examples of best practice from around the UK and abroad.
