DURING two seasons of persistent flirtation with relegation, Swindon Supermarine have inevitably faced some crucial games.

But none have had quite the significance of tomorrow's trip to Bromsgrove 90 minutes which will determine whether Ray Baverstock's side remain in the Dr Martens League or return to the Hellenic.

Marine's brief is simple. Match Atherstone United's result and they stay up, fail to do so and they go down.

Unfortunately, Atherstone are at home to rock-bottom Racing Club Warwick, but there are other permutations.

Rocester are not out of the relegation equation yet and should they lose at Cinderford, a draw would be enough to keep Marine up regardless of the Atherstone outcome.

But the only way Marine can guarantee safety is by winning at Bromsgrove and boss Baverstock wants his troops to keep their destiny in their own hands.

He said: "We've taken 19 points out of 21 and that has given us a chance.

"If we were offered the chance to play for survival on the final day six weeks ago we'd certainly have taken it.

"We won't go to Bromsgrove all guns blazing, we'll approach the game in the same way we have the last seven.

"It won't be easy because they're playing for third place.

"But it is important that we win that way it's in our own hands."

Baverstock confirmed that score updates from the other two key matches will be passed to the Marine bench, allowing him to tinker with tactics as necessary.

"We will have someone keeping an ear on the other games, it's important that we know what's going on so we know what we have to do," he said.

"But the most important thing is to concentrate on our own game and try to win.

"The lads have given me 100 per cent this season and they've been superb over the last few weeks.

"If we can keep that going we've got every chance."

Steve Davies will return to the squad after missing the last few games through family commitments, and he will challenge Andy Grainge for a place in the centre of defence.

Other than that, Marine will field the same line up that cantered to victory against Shepshed last Saturday.
