Unless you have the disease yourself, it is hard to imagine what goes through somebody's mind when they are diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Suddenly you find out you are suffering from something over which you have little control.

But one Chippenham woman is determined to overcome the odds by following a special diet to stay healthy rather than have chemotherapy. Chonette Taylor has been inspired by a book written by a fellow sufferer who has proven you can prolong your life without orthodox treatments.

She has spent many hours researching the disease over the internet and has emailed consultants all over the world for advice. Mrs Taylor is confident she can remain fit and healthy by taking things such as meat, sugar and salt out of her diet.

She realises chemotherapy has worked for other sufferers but is determined to stick to her own approach and says she would only use more conventional methods as a last resort.

This bravery has to be praised.

Mrs Taylor is taking a big step into the unknown because she does not know how effective her diet will be, but her family is prepared to support her all the way. Let's hope her story is as successful as the one which inspired her.
