SWINDON schoolgirl Megan Glynne-Jones is heading off to the Vietnamese jungle for an adventure holiday and charity project.

Fourteen-year-old Megan, of Station Road, Purton, is taking part in a World Challenge Expedition with 25 other pupils from the Duke of York Military College in Dover.

She said: "It will be such a brilliant experience and something to remember for the rest of my life."

The month long expedition is planned for summer 2004, and the group will spend time on two charity projects building a school in a Vietnamese village and working with an environmental charity.

They will also make a four-day trek through the Vietnam-ese jungle.

Megan said: "We want to give the local children the opportunity for an education.

"The other charity project we wanted to get involved in is helping to preserve the local wildlife, which is rapidly disappearing from this beautiful country."

Megan is a member of her school cadet band, and enjoys outdoor pursuits as part of work for her silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.

As part of the challenge, group members must raise £3,000 each to pay for their travel costs.

Megan said: "We have already had a car boot sale and a 15km sponsored run, and we are organising several events and asking local companies for sponsorship."
