THE FIGHT against tuition fees will continue, according to New College's new student union president.
Chris Martin, 17, from Middleleaze, said tuition fees which land university students with debts of up to £10,000 dominated his election campaign.
More than 400 students turned out for Martin, 17, who was elected alongside Claire Moulton, 18, from Rodbourne Cheney, as vice president.
They will take over in September from current president Luke Graham, 17, from Liden, and vice president Roshni Patel, 18, from West Swindon.
Their first task will be to appoint 12 students to the executive committee.
Mr Martin said tuition fees were the only national issue that got students talking.
He promised to carry on the fight and also underlined his commitment to students on a local level, responding to their need for more entertainment.
He hopes to continue with previous successful events, including the battle of the bands and fun days.
He said: "I want to make sure we get the best out of the union budget.
"There were no real strong views or policies that won the election. People were more interested in the personality of people standing."
New vice president Claire Moulton said students she had spoken to were concerned about the shortage of car parking spaces and keen for a juke box in the refectory. She also promised to work on improving the careers facilities.
The college has recently moved into a £15m building in Queen's Drive .
