A NIGHTCLUB flyer showing two girls kissing has angered parents who say it gives children the wrong impression.

The leaflet advertises Old Town nightclub Soda's Worldwide DJ night on Saturday, May 31, which urges revellers to come together and shows a colour photograph of two blonde clubbers caught in a passionate clinch.

Soda promoter and DJ Nick Ferro, 26, has received a series of phone calls and emails complaining about the risque nature of the flyer.

He came up with the idea after spotting the two girls in Soda about a month ago.

"To be quite honest I can't understand what all the fuss is about because children can easily walk into a newsagent and pick up a copy of the Sun and have a look at page three or stare at covers of magazines which often show nudity," he said.

"Quite often we take photographs of club nights to put on our website.

"I couldn't believe my luck when I turned around and saw these two girls kissing. The pictures came out perfectly, which isn't bad because I'm not a photo- grapher.

"It's a free world and these people have every right to complain, but I would say that in this day and age it's not unusual to see two people of the same sex kissing each other. It happens all the time."

Around 5,000 of the leaflets have been distributed in fashion stores, bars and shops across Swindon.

But one email sent to Soda, the author of which wished to remain anonymous, read: "I'm deeply appalled at the bad taste in this flyer.

"I feel they should not be displayed in shops where children have access.

"My husband and I feel strongly about this and urge you (Soda) to rethink where you display and distribute your material."

Nightclub flyers have gone down in legend for their innovative, racy and bizarre ways of using film stars, newspaper stories and celebrities to advertise events.

The Score, a monthly night Soda featuring Miss Money-penny resident DJ, Simon Forestiero, uses a still from the cult Al Pacino film Scarface.

And Hugh Grant's police photograph, taken after his well-publicised misdemeanour on Sunset Boule-vard several years ago, has graced the cover of countless promotional flyers.

Mr Ferro said there were no plans to stop distributing the flyer and interest in the night, which features soulful house pioneer Andy Ward, has been strong, thanks in part to the eye-catching nature of the promotional material.

Soda opened a year ago and since then has attracted a string of top names from Clubland and has even won an award for its interior design.
