The building of accommodation for retired people right in the centre of Old Town, backing onto the garden of a busy bar was a big mistake.
Sitting in Mackenzies garden a few years ago, oberserving the building work, the conclusion was that at some time in the future councillors would raise concerns for the poor residents of said accommodation.
How predictable.
I chose to live in Old Town because of the range of bars and restaurants, I don't want to walk down Victoria Road to visit a chain pub in the Brunel Centre.
The bars and restaurants of Old Town are a major part of the experience and have been for decades.
I understand that not every resident of the square mile is happy with the negative aspects of living here the parking, rubbish, and the noise (those church bells take some getting used to) are all day to day irritations that affect the population of Old Town.
Maybe Coun Bawden should have a good long think about the 'difficult balance to strike in Old Town' before making comments on the licensing of local bars.
Come on Coun Bawden. Think of the 20- and 30-something voters of Old Town for once.
