THE comment by Rex Barnett (EA April 29), that the English troops in the Gulf did not observe St George's Day is far from the truth.

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers always wear red and white roses in their caps on that day and were shown doing so on television.

The cap badge of the regiment also carries an image of St George and the Dragon and a red and white hackle is worn at most times as St George is the patron saint of the Regiment.

I like to think that the English show more decorum than razzmatazz. No names, no pack drill.

In the words of a great man who was born and also died on St George's Day They doth protest too loudly.
