I WRITE in response to last Thursday's story entitled 'Tesco looks to expand'.
Firstly, Tesco was asked to produce documented evidence of the need for a larger store.
I wait with baited breath to see how it will prove that a larger store is needed for non-food items such as clothing and electrical goods when, within a mile of the store, we have a town centre full of clothing and in the other direction several electrical retailers in and around Gorse Hill.
As for the comments from ward councillor John Taylor (Lab), he should have been saying that Tesco had no right to demolish the bowls club and the Allied Dunbar building instead of saying that the work that has been done would have been for nothing.
I'm sure he is not stupid enough to think that Tesco pays its planning and legal people thousands of pounds a year for nothing. The building was pulled down so that everyone will think the same as Mr Taylor.
