Professor Kayoss, alias Des Kay, was just one of the colourful characters who ensured children at Keynes Country Park had a fun and action-packed Bank Holiday weekend.

THERE was plenty to do in Swindon over the May Bank Holiday - and people came out in force to enjoy the fine weather.

From Old Town to the Cotswold Water Park young and old enjoyed plenty of fun and games.

The Pipers Area Residents' Association organised a host of attractions at the Croft Sports Centre in Old Town yesterday, including a craft fair, fairground rides and a bouncy castle.

George Wallis, 10, and his sister, Sarah, seven, from Old Town tucked into candyfloss and toffee apples. George said: "It is delicious. Coming here certainly beats tidying my room."

The event boasted stalls selling anything from books to paintings and knitted jumpers to home made cakes. Some of the money raised will go towards local charities.

Organiser Gwenda Barnes, 67, from Old Town, said: "We had more than 30 stalls and hope many good causes will benefit from the bank holiday fun."

The Cotswold Water Park's annual Great Lakes Family Day yesterday was once again a hit, with hundreds of families enjoying the Bank Holiday sunshine. This year's theme was Wildlife Wonders of the Water Park, with animals on display including otters, minibeasts and the European Eagle Owl.

There were craft stalls and farmers' produce, displays by environmental groups and face painting, quad bikes and a magician for the children.

Caroline Smith of the water park said: "With a mixture of all the old favourites and new added attractions we are hoping to have an even more successful event than last year."

The park is now selling season tickets, which are valid until March next year, costing £30.
