MATTY HEYWOOD is looking forward to extending an already astonishing record after signing a new two-year contract at the County Ground.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper yesterday and sees no reason why his ever-present tag should not stretch to another season.

He said: "I'm delighted to have got everything sorted and I'm more than happy to be a Swindon Town player for at least another two years.

"It's gone ever so well for me since I joined from Burnley and I will continue to give my all for the club."

Heywood has hardly missed a moment's action since Andy King rescued him from reserve team football at Turf Moor.

He said: "The only games I've missed were when Roy Evans decided to rest me. And I can assure you I wasn't tired.

"I played every minute of every game in the season which has just ended and I don't see any reason why I can't do the same again next season.

"Security is a big factor as well. The PFA have said there will be 800 to 1,000 players looking for clubs this summer. That's a frightening statistic."

Goalkeeper Craig Farr has penned a month-to-month agreement, and Steve Robinson is believed to have verbally agreed a one-year deal.

Stefani Miglioranzi signed a 12 month deal last week.

While all three look certain to be part of the Town squad next year, manager King is working hard to add some unfamiliar faces to his squad.

Around 60 players from home and abroad attempted to impress King in a series of trial matches at a sun-kissed County Ground yesterday.

Youngsters freed from English clubs such as Everton, Coventry, Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion took on players released by French sides including Paris St Germain and Montpellier.

King looked on from the Arkell's Stand alongside Sir Seton Wills but at the end of the session none of the players were greeted by the Town boss waving a contract.

However, the manager did invite several of the triallists into his office for a 'chat' and ten were due back today for a second bite at the cherry.

The Town boss said: "All you can do is keep looking and hope that one of these kids has something to offer."

Chief executive Mark Devlin was also among the spectators yesterday and it was not just the summer-like weather that caused him to smile.

He said: "Season ticket sales are up by around 30 per cent and what is particularly encouraging is that 20 per cent of the sales so far are from new customers or lapsed fans who have decided to come back to the club."

Former Town loanee Junior Lewis has been told he can leave Leicester City by Foxes boss Micky Adams despite the midfielder still having one year left on his contract.
