SOUTH Wilts Cricket Club are hoping to finally get their league campaign under way this weekend after having their scheduled game at the Rose Bowl against Hampshire Academy called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

Friday's deluge ruined any chance of play on the nursery pitch at South-ampton and meant other sides stole a march on the Salisbury outfit.

Last season's champions Havant won a low-scoring encounter at Andover by two wickets, while Ports-mouth and Bashley enjoy-ed comfortable successes against Liphook and Calmore respectively.

Bournemouth, who also suffered a wash out, visit Wilton Road for Saturday's ECB Southern Electric Premier League Division One contest, while Sunday sees them entertain Cor-sham in the second round of the National Knockout Cup. Both games start at 1pm.

The club's seconds, thirds and fourths all had comfortable friendly wins over their Andover counterparts.

Highlights being the half-centuries by Colin Perry, Shaun Little and Simon Woodhouse for the seconds, Colin Moody for the thirds and an undefeated century for Peter Sadler and a half-century for Amish Patel for the fourths.

Fovant picked up 19 points after winning their opening Nationwide Sun Alliance Dorset League Divi-sion Three match against West Parley by seven wickets.

Winning the toss and inviting the opposition to bat proved crucial as Fovant's bowlers took advantage of the conditions to bowl out their hosts for 96.

Andy Nuttall took 4-10 from nine incisive overs while Peter Catarinella, 2-12 from eight, and Sean White, 2-18 from six, were mainly responsible for bringing the innings to its conclusion.

Fovant lost three early wickets before an unbeaten partnership of 68 between Sean White, 27, and Nuttall, 33, took the visitors to 97-3 and victory.
