LYNEHAM'S award-winning village website has won another accolade 18 months after it was set up by former RAF engineer Andy Humm.

The website, which is packed with local information, events, news and views receives more than 2,000 hits a week, totalling nearly 75,000 visits since it opened.

It has won two global awards and in November last year the site won website of the month. It was put forward with 11 other village sites to challenge for village website of the year and last week Mr Humm found out www. Lyenhamvillage.com was third in the competition.

He said: "I'm ecstatic. It's quite pleasing that someone appreciates and recognises what a quality site it is.

"I have just carried on updating it so I can serve the local community as much as I can."

Mr Humm, 43, who still works for the MOD after retiring from the RAF last year after 27 years as an engineering controller, spent seven years at RAF Lyneham. He built the website on his own after teaching himself how to use a computer.

But he said his computer has not taken over his life and he does most of his work on the site when his family watches EastEnders.

Mr Humm said he has plenty of exciting ideas to develop the site, including on-line competitions, feedback and fundraising campaigns.

The website was totally self funded, but three months ago Lyneham Computers agreed to sponsor the site and pay for the server costs.
