BARNSLEY'S finest poet, Ian McMillan, who has a reputation for his hilarious stage show, has been booked to appear at Dauntsey's School Memorial Hall, in West Lavington, near Devizes, on Tuesday May 13.

Mr McMillan is a regular contributor to BBC Radio and his live projects in the last year have included making up poems with his audiences at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.

He is also known as Humberside Police's "beat poet" for his habit of accompanying police officers on their rounds and reflecting their experiences in verse.

Nan Saunders, of the Well Wisher Bookshop, in Devizes, has arranged for Mr McMillan to visit the area and she is looking forward to Tuesday's event with great anticipation.

She said: "I saw Mr McMillan perform last year and I thought, we must get him for Devizes. They would love him."

Tickets for the show, starting at 7pm on May 13, are available from Mrs Webber at Dauntsey's School on (01380) 814505 or the Well Wisher Bookshop on (01380) 722640.
