THROUGH your newspaper, can I say how much I enjoyed this year's Swindon Jazz Festival.

Along with a capacity audience I was captivated by the awesome performance of the young local jazz pianist, Jamie Cullum, which was spellbinding enough, but then his interpretation and playing of his own compositions was inspirational and eagerly applauded by enraptured fans.

It is gratifying to see that Jamie, who is about to ascend to superstar status and is a supporter of the Swindon Jazz Festival, received a rapturous reception from the audience at the jazz marquee.

The vitality of his playing left us breathless at times and shows he has a great talent for reaching out to his fans.

The need for such a calendar event as the Swindon Jazz Festival is quite obvious as was amply demonstrated by the enthusiasm and huge support of the public.

Let us hope with similar support for future jazz festivals it will place Swindon securely in the jazz scene where it deserves to be.
