PUB staff called police officers to a Trowbridge bar after spotting two men with drugs on the premises.
Staff at the Isaac Pitman pub in Trowbridge relayed their suspicions to officers, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man.
Roger Yeates appeared before Trowbridge magistrates on Thursday and pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.
Prosecutor Michelle Hewitt said Yeates made confessions to officers while being driven to Melksham police station on April 25.
Officers found 1.8 grams of cannabis resin in his jacket pocket during a search at the police station.
Police also carried out a search of Yeates' home in Aldeburgh Place, Trowbridge, and found a further five grams of cannabis resin.
Defence solicitor Ann Ellery said the cannabis found was all for her client's personal use.
Miss Ellery blasted police for leaving Yeates in custody for 18 hours while they carried out their investigation.
Magistrates fined Yeates £75 and ordered him to pay £55 costs.
