TICKETS are selling fast for the musical Extravaganza to be held at Sutton Benger at the end of the month.

Organisers have advised people to get their tickets in advance because there is only a limited number for the hugely popular annual event.

The cricket club is holding the fundraiser on August 30 at the village recreation ground.

Cricket club chairman and Extravaganza organiser, Trevor Knowlden, has choreographed an African dance to feature at the mini festival.

Mr Knowlden, who is originally from Cape Town in South Africa, said he wanted to create something different for this year's musical event.

"I am going back to my roots. I have written a 25-minute piece which is my interpretation of African music and dance. There will be a safari scene with children dressed up dancing to African beat music," he said.

The African music and dance will accompany seven professional and amateur bands, who will play on a high-tech stage which is used at the Glastonbury Festival. The stage includes £250,000 worth of lighting.

The family event will begin at 3pm and go on until midnight. There will be plenty of entertainment for adults and children, including quad bikes, African drumming workshop, face painting and a spectacular laser light display.

There will be a great variety of music from rock to jazz, including Chippenham Band Iron the Cat and the Groove Jets who have come straight from their Glastonbury debut.

"There will be a few surprises at the end of the night that I don't want to give away. But it is going to be a real awesome spectacle," said Mr Knowlden.

The evening will end with a firework display and proceeds will go to the cricket club for new equipment.

The Extravaganza will also be launching the village appeal to raise money for Dreams Come True, the children's charity.

Local resident Catherine Tytherleigh is running the New York Marathon to raise money for the cause.
