WOODGREEN scraped home by one wicket off the last available ball when they entertained Ordnance Survey and the victory has lifted them just out of the relegation zone in the Hampshire League Regional Division Two South West.

Dave Russell, 26, and Mike Toms, 23, led the Ordnance Survey early batting but they were never in control as they slumped to 98-5 before John Bance, 50, lifted them to 145-9 with Jeff Angel, 3-13, Dave Naish, 2-34, and Jono Sanger, 2-42, the main wicket takers.

Woodgreen were a long way from home at 52-5 but then Gordon Naish, 34, got the home team back on track but it was an eighth wicket stand of 42 between Jeff Angel and Mike Hitchings, with 20 apiece, which took them within sight of the target.

Jason Holderness, 10 not out, hit a two off the last ball of the 42nd over to seal the closest of victories.

Against promotion chasing Bramshaw II, Hyde were asked to bat on a hard bouncy track and the Newton father and son, Kevin, 30, and Mark, 34, shared in a half century stand which gave the hosts a solid platform at the halfway point. With the middle order, Mike Shutler, 34, Jon Cray, 26, and Paul Newton, 33 not out, all contributing decent knocks, Hyde managed to increase the run rate and they finished on 198-7.

Bramshaw's hopes were shot down very early on when three wickets fell with the score at ten.

The Battling George Gray, 45, found good support from Kevin Marshall, 35, and Stuart Strickland, 31, and the visitors were back in t he game at 121-4. In deteriorating light Hyde turned to their two quickest bowlers with Jon Cray, 2-42, giving his all alongside Mark Newton, 7-54, who stole the honours as Bramshaw's lower order gave way and they were all out for 168 in the 39th over.

Mike Parke hit an unbeaten century as Alderholt pulled away from the danger zone with a resounding nine wicket win over Godshill. Alan Cousins made an unbeaten 40 but his only allies were Andy Lowe and Chris Chatwin, who both made 32, as Godshill slumped to 153 all out in the 33rd over. Parke followed his 3-14 by smashing 107 not out as Alderholt cruised home in 37.1 overs.

Burley threw away some vital bonus points in their quest for promotion and had to be satisfied with a three wicket win over Lymington III at Woodside.

The home side made slow progress on a difficult track and they were restricted to 141-8 with Dave Spinney, 29, Ed Carter, 25, and Jerry Holt, 19, the top scorers as Tim Cooper claimed 3-31.

Having lost an early wicket, Burley were going along nicely when they lost Paul Yates, 43, after he put 69 for the second wicket with Les Browning.

Treagus, 6-33, then caused all kinds of trouble but Browning hit an unbeaten 60 and, with Stuart Feltham keeping his head at the other end, the visitors won with four overs to spare.
