SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: STAFF at Motorola have raised more cash for the Swindon Cancer Appeal.

Last month, the telecommunications conglomerate donated £7,500 to the appeal.

Now, with the help of other local companies, the firm has raised another £1,400.

The cash was raised at a fun day held at Motorola's Groundwell offices last month to celebrate the telecommunication group's 75th birthday.

Seven other firms helped organise the day, and gave raffle prizes and donations.

Catering was provided by Eurest, Group 4 handled security and ice cream came courtesy of Pepe's.

The Village Hotel in South Marston gave raffle prizes, as did Bob Cole Group Travel, which donated a trip for two to the Niagara falls.

Resource Environmental Services and FM Solutions/ Brewsters helped run the day.

At least 2,000 Moto-rola workers and their families enjoyed events ranging from a touring version of the television show, It's A Knockout, hosted by former children's TV star Keith Chegwin, to quad biking, dodgem rides and laser-clay pigeon shooting.

The event was masterminded by Motorola staff Graz Kaja, Pamela Mattey, Carolyn Outram, Karin McKann and Glenda Balfe.

Pamela Mattey, a personal assistant, explained why the company was so supportive of the appeal.

She said: "The company employs 1,200 people, and at one time or another, everyone's life will be touched by cancer. We want to help cancer patients get the best care they can."

Graziella Campisano, appeal manager at Swindon's Macmillan office, thanked Motorola for its support.

She said: "It's wonderful that so many local companies have recognised the importance of the appeal.

"Every pound they have raised will go towards improving care for cancer patients in Swindon."

I'd like to thank all the companies who helped make the day a success," she said.
