Ref. 26285-59YOUNGSTERS enjoyed a special teddy bears' picnic in honour of a much-loved friend.

Abby Smith, who used to attend the Leapfrog nursery in Highdown Way, Swindon, sadly died from leukaemia in July last year.

But she has stayed in her former playmates' thoughts and yesterday they staged a teddy bears' picnic event in aid of the Abby Smith Cancer Fund.

The fund was set up to distribute money between the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Movement (Calm) and the children's cancer unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. The tots enjoyed plenty of party food and played games.

Morag Puffett, baby base room manager, said: "We were doing it for the Abby Smith appeal, and it was nice to keep her in our thoughts.

"The sun came out and it was a very happy occasion. The children had brought in teddies and some of the toys were bigger than them!"
