THANKS to the kindness of the owners and the perseverance of a Mr Harboard at RAF Innsworth, I was recently able to make a visit to the RAF Hospital at Wroughton.
I was a student nurse there in the 60s and it was a really lovely place to work.
It was so sad to see what had been a lovely hospital in such a condition and I still cannot understand why it could not have continued.
I thought about Nan and Dot. They were our room cleaners but more than that they were our confidantes.
I remember the dismay when I heard that Dot was being sacked for lateness I dragged my two friends along for Dutch courage and went to Matron, then to the man in charge of civilian employees. The thought of losing our Dot spurred me on to take the unfortunate man to task.
He was quite perplexed and annoyed but to our delight there was no further mention of Dot leaving.
I would love to hear any news of either of these ladies. I can be contacted on 01772 774038.
