A children's play area in Gastard, near Corsham, has received a cash boost of £2,430 to replace the play surface and improve drainage.

North Wiltshire District Council's Corsham area committee agreed on September 8 to make the grant from the Community Area Awards budget.

The play area at Coppershell, in Gastard, was installed in 1988 when less sophisticated safety surfaces were available.

The play area becomes water-logged in the wet weather and Corsham Town Council, which is a trustee for the play area, wanted to replace the bark beneath some equipment with a rubber alternative.

The next phase in the development of the play area will look to other funders and community groups to replace a multi-play unit.

The Corsham area committee also agreed to make an award of £1,175 to Corsham Town Council to build a bus shelter in Neston.

Currently the village has no shelter and members hoped by building one it would encourage more people to use the bus service rather than their cars.

Wiltshire County Council's passenger transport infrastructure liaison officer reported the Neston stop was one of the busiest in the village with a services running from 8am to 5.30pm during the week.

Partnership funding from the county and town councils has been secured and the work on the new shelter should be completed by March 31.
