ADVICE from a barrister has dashed the hopes of campaigners wanting a judicial review into the closure of Trowbridge Magistrates' Court.
Trowbridge Town Council paid £500 for the advice of a barrister in Bristol but the response was not what many wanted to hear.
Campaigners were told the deadline for forcing a judicial review had passed, but the weight of evidence in favour of the Lord Chancellor meant campaigners were unlikely to have the decision reversed.
Key campaigner and former mayor Angela Milroy said: "We were trying to make sure that all avenues had been explored. We had a lot of support from a lot of town and parish councils."
A fighting fund was set-up to raise the £50,000 needed to force a judicial review but only a fraction of the amount was pledged.
The two magistrates courts were earmarked for closure to help fund a new courthouse in Salisbury. All west Wiltshire cases will be heard in Warminster from September 29. The last adult cases will be heard at Trowbridge Magistrates' Court on September 25 .
The results of a study into the future use of the former town hall will be unveiled within days.
