SAMMY IGOE seems resigned to spot of bench-warming at Barnsley tomorrow but manager Andy King has hinted the midfielder won't be there long enough to develop splinters.

The 27-year-old has completed his three match ban but the short-term price to be paid for his moment of madness against Notts County looks to be his starting slot.

King is likely to name an unchanged side for the third game running and that means there is no room for Igoe at Oakwell.

However, with Leeds United boss Peter Reid confirming that Milner's loan stay at the County Ground will not be extended all the indications are that Igoe will be back sooner rather than later.

King said: "Having a choice of James Milner and Sammy Igoe is a wonderful problem for a manager.

"I thought Sammy had been inspirational until his moment of stupidity against Notts County and he might find that the price to be paid is that he doesn't walk straight back in.

"The boy Milner has done wonderfully well for us but the deal I agreed with Peter Reid was for a month.

"He is a home-grown talent and maybe Peter feels James is ready to add something to their Premiership campaign.

"As for Sammy Igoe, he is a major part of the future we are trying to build here."

Igoe accepts that his colleagues have been enjoying a winning run in his absence and he will not be throwing his toys out of the pram if his name does not figure among the starting eleven at Oakwell.

He said: "As a player you want to be involved in every match but James Milner has come in and done a great job for the lads.

"So 'no' I won't be happy if I'm not playing but 'yes' I will understand why. I suppose it's a nice dilemma for the gaffer."

Igoe had been given a few days off for family reasons following his suspension but he was back at Wanborough yesterday for a tough session under the supervision of Alan Reeves.

He said: "Reevesy was under instructions from the manager to run my proverbials off and he certainly did that."

Igoe and company boarded the team bus this morning bound for Yorkshire and a training session at Leeds United's Thorp Arch complex.

The Elland Road club's training ground is familiar territory for James Milner and sadly for Town fans, he will soon be heading back there permanently.

He will remain at the County Ground until the clash with Luton on October 1 before returning north.

Leeds boss Peter Reid said: "I only wanted James out on loan for a month to get a bit of experience, so he'll be back with us at the end of the month.

"I know Andy King very well and he will help James a lot, so it can only be good for his footballing education."

Town's LDV Vans Trophy match at Boston United has been confirmed as Wednesday, October 15.
