ALEX Crockett believes Bath can return to their former free-scoring days on the back of a powerful new pack capable of wreaking havoc in the Premiership.

Leeds Tykes were the first to feel the force of the Rec's new heavyweights, a dominant display paving they way for a five-try display at Headingley.

Powerhouse props Duncan Bell and David Flatman and dynamic No 8 Zac Feaunati have beefed up a unit that was previously seen as something of a soft touch.

And Swindon-born centre Crockett, himself on the scoresheet on the opening weekend, reckons that platform can help Bath score the tries they have lacked over the past two seasons of struggle.

"The best thing about Leeds was the forwards played,'' said the England Under 21 man 22 next month.

"They were dominating the scrums and lineouts and it was good to see the backs taking advantage of that to score some tries.

"We have some good new signings and some big players in there.

"If they can do that job every week and set up the platform, hopefully the wingers and outside backs will run in more.''

A win on the opening day is not a new feeling for Bath they did the same at London Irish last season but Crockett feels the squad can kick on from that triumph rather than slipping back into old habits.

"Pre-season, we won a few games and it's just getting into that winning habit that we have not been in for the last couple of years,'' he added.

"Leeds went better than expected in terms of scoring tries. We were expecting a result, but perhaps not a bonus point so it was very good.

"In the last couple of years, the tries haven't been flooding in, so that was enjoyable.

"But we weren't happy with our second half performance, letting in four tries and missing a few tackles, but that's something we have worked on this week and we can cut those out.''
