SINGERS from Highworth will be helping to create a worldwide wave of sound in aid of charity.

Members of the Highworth Choral Society are among thousands of singers from across the globe who will be taking part in the Voices for Hospices fundraising event.

Money raised from the concert in St Michael's Church, Highworth will go towards the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

The first note will be sung simultaneously around the globe at 7.30pm on October 4.

The musicians will perform a diverse programme, which varies from Andrew Lloyd Webber to rock band Queen.

The highlight will be a snatch of the musical Miss Cubana, which the society performed in April.

Choir member Simon Apps said: "Many people have asked if we would be performing parts of Miss Cubana again, and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity."

The worldwide event has been taking part every three years since 1991.

Tickets for the Highworth event cost £5 and are available from the Lighthouse Bookshop in High Street.
