NAVAL medic Dr Andrew Murrison has spent the week training at a Nottingham army barracks in preparation for military service in Iraq.

The 42-year-old west Wiltshire MP will fly-out to join British troops in Basra next week.

The Tory MP, who leaves his wife and five children, will use his medical background to help provide relief to medics already in the Gulf.

He travelled to Chilwell Barracks and started training on Monday.

His call-up comes as part of the latest deployment of 1,200 troops.

Although Dr Murrison resigned from the Navy in 2000 he stayed signed-up as a reservist.

The MP launched the Moroccan exhibition at Trowbridge Museum on Saturday in one of his last public engagements.

The Breaking Down Barriers exhibition putting the county town's links with the Moroccan community under the spotlight will run until October 17.
