Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Sir Maurice Johnston KCB OBE with Wyvern College students at the launch of the XL Club at the college on Thursday. DA3942P3STUDENTS and staff at Wyvern College, Salisbury, hosted a visit last week by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sir Maurice Johnston.

He was at the college to launch its new XL project, a scheme supported by the Prince's Trust and run in schools to help young people make the most of their time in school - by boosting their motivation and encouraging them to gain practical skills for a better future after they leave.

The venture is already proving successful in Kent, Devon, Cornwall and part of London - but until now it has not been tried in this region.

At the end of the programme, XL Club members can gain the Prince's Trust award at gold, silver or bronze level.

Sir Maurice told Wyvern students: "I am absolutely delighted to come here to Wyvern to endorse such a wonderfully innovative and exciting scheme in Salisbury. I am particularly proud that Wiltshire, and especially Salisbury's Wyvern College, should be the first in the south of England to adopt this new programme for the benefit of its students"

Wyvern principal Glyniss Sedden said that, in line with the college's stated values of courage, commitment and compassion, college staff were continually striving to help students achieve their full potential.

She said the new scheme would help the students to make the most of their time in school and then leave Wyvern with experiences and results that would assist them in the future.
