Ref. 26719-03A couple who met over a freshly baked loaf of bread are celebrating their golden wedding.
Alf and Myra Brown, of Park South, married in Milton Road registry office 50 years ago today.
And they say their relationship has lasted throughout the decades due to a lot of sharing and giving.
Myra, 69, said: "I used to work at the Co-op bakery, in Swindon's East Street. My job was to deliver the bread.
"One day I had to go to a farm. Alf was a builder working there and as I was walking across the field he saw me and we started chatting. I think he followed me home.
"We've been together a long time. People have to give and take that's the best part of being married."
Myra, who used to attend Gorse Hill School, added: "So many young couples get married now and don't work through things to stay together."
Alf, 77, still remembers Myra's bread on that first meeting.
"She had a whole basket full of it," he said. "We started yapping and then I asked her to the Palace, in Gorse Hill, that night. I think we saw some cowboy film."
Alf and Myra, who have five children and nine grandchildren, now enjoy catching the bus to the town centre shops and going for walks.
Alf said: "I have had an aviary since I was a schoolboy. We like sitting there and watching the 100 or so birds."
He added: "I had to get rid of some of the love birds as they kept breeding too much."
