FOUR youths arrested in connection with a break-in at the stately home of Lord Bath have had their bail dates extended.

Police officers investigating the dawn break-in at Longleat House are waiting for the results of forensic tests before continuing with the inquiry.

The youths, all aged under 17, were bailed until Sunday following the September 1 raid at the mansion.

The dates were extended until the end of October to allow labs to field back test results.

A ground floor fanlight window was smashed at Lord Bath's stately home at 4am.

Intruders scaled a wall into a locked garden but activated the alarms when they tried to access the Cellar Caf.

The motive is believed to be cash but the caf leads to the entire house, where priceless artifacts, paintings and jewels are on show.

The four teenagers, who told officers they were on a fishing trip, were arrested close to Longleat's sprawling grounds on suspicion of attempted burglary.

It is the second time in eight years the historic Warminster house has been targeted by thieves.

Eight years ago a gang stole millions of pounds worth of paintings in a night-time raid.
