THE plan for Trowbridge has been a regular topic in the Wiltshire Times. Many of our local politicians debating the rights and wrongs of whichever side they favour.

I may be naive, but the big business consortiums will be driving this and for the most part they will follow their own agenda. They are not in it to be philanthropic but to make money.

What our local politicians must safeguard is the sites we do control the park, multi-storey car park, civic hall etc. Not one inch or brick to be bartered away. They have cost the people of Trowbridge dear. Remember Tesco/park and again Tesco/swimming pool and all the millions of pounds involved seems to have disappeared down a big black hole.

This time we won't, I hope, be so trusting and will expect people to be accountable for decisions taken.

While we wait for developments perhaps our eager politicos could cast their eyes on the River Biss, especially Shires/Asda area. What an advert for Trowbridge rubbish, weeds, overgrown, bushes/trees a breeding ground for vermin.

Do any of the council departments ever liaise? Last year a CCTV camera was installed outside the post office. Cost unknown. This year it disappeared and the area further extended with paths. We have been very curious about this need. Could it be for Post Office staff so they can put on a show and entertain the public to dream up some new trade. The CCTV cameras have reappeared now but the zebra crossing has gone missing.

New paths and road improvements are complete (we hope) and it looks quite smart. I do, unfortunately, have a serious reservation regarding the curb edgings they are lethal very sharp edged. If someone has a tumble it could be very nasty. I just hope it isn't me.
