POLICE are investigating allegations of assault on two young girls in Trowbridge town park.

Officers are appealing for witnesses who saw a woman wielding an axe in the park at 5.30pm on August 20 to come forward.

A three-foot pickaxe has been seized and police have made an arrest in connection with the inquiry.

A 15-year-old girl suffered facial injuries while a 12-year-old girl was verbally abused in an incident police believe could have been witnessed by scores of people.

The town park is covered by CCTV but the cameras were not pointing in the right direction to capture the incident.

PC Gillian Cole, of Trowbridge police said: "We want to speak to anyone who remembers seeing a male and a female in the town park with an axe.

"It wasn't far from where a lot of children were playing."

A 22-year-old Trowbridge woman has been released on police bail in connection with possessing an offensive weapon.
