Wootton Bassett were dumped out of the Powergen Intermediate Cup cup after a 5010 thumping by Westbury.

From the start Bassett never looked as if they were in the game, and Westbury quickly notched up 30 points with no reply. All the tries came from their big forwards.

Wootton Bassett managed to get on the scoreboard with a penalty from fly-half Paul Floyd just before the interval to give a half-time score of 30 3.

The second period saw Bassett come out with more fire and a change of tactics, and straight from the off centre Mike Dixon cut the defence in two and scored under the posts to give an easy conversion to Paul Floyd.

Unfortunately for the visitors this was the only score they were to get, and the Westbury forwards scored a further 20 points to give them the victory and the place in the next round.

Captain Mark Roshier said: "We just didn't seem to want this game. The plus point was that our set pieces were a 100 per cent improvement on last week."
