GLOUCESTERSHIRE all-rounder Roger Sillence was at Corsham cricket club on Saturday night to help celebrate the academy's presentation night.

The academy has been in place for a number of years but after a reorganisation at the start of last season they enjoyed one of their most successful ever campaigns.

Club chairman Tony Shardlow said: "We used to just play friendly matches but now it is much more competitive and you can see the results.

"A lot of the academy players play in the fourth team in Division Eight of the Wiltshire League as well now and they won the league.

"That is exactly what we want as the point of the academy is to push the youngsters into senior cricket

"All we can do now is hope for further success in the future."

The player of the year award for the under nines went to Michael Clubbe.

They enjoyed a good season including three tournament wins in Kwik cricket.

Mark Hick was the under 11 player of the season.

His team finished fourth in the North Wiltshire and District league.

The under 13s team came fifth in the Bath and District League and Ian Jeffery won the award for player of the year while the under 15's came fourth in the Bath and District League with Sam Collier winning the trophy.

Awards were given to Josh Bewley for most improved player and Nathan Hand for the best batting of the year.

The awards were presented by Sillence, who plays his club cricket for Corsham.
