TROWBRIDGE Town came from a goal behind to beat Melksham Town Reserves 3-1 at Woodmarsh on Saturday and keep their place at the top of the Wiltshire League Premier Division.

A Dave Percival double and a late strike by Ricky Trott cancelled out Melksham's opener and Percival was only denied his second hat-trick in successive weeks by a missed penalty just before the break.

Kirkpatrick said: "We didn't play very well. It was a dire game all round but at least we got the three points."

After just five minutes, Trowbridge's Ricky Trott gave away a free-kick just to the left of the penalty area and when the ball was played into the crowded penalty area there was some confusion before the referee consulted the linesman to confirm the ball had crossed the line.

Trowbridge then started to take control and Walled Bakali went close on 15 minutes with a long-range shot that just went wide. Bakali was involved again after 19 minutes to produce the equaliser as his left wing cross was well met by Percival who steered the ball into the net.

Two minutes later Town were ahead as Percival gained possession on the left wing before going past two defenders and beating the goalkeeper with a shot inside the near post.

Just before half-time Mitchell was brought down inside the area but Percival's penalty was too near the keeper who made a good stop.

Trowbridge made sure of victory on 75 minutes when Ricky Trott finished from close range.

Trowbridge face title rivals Biddestone in the first round of the Wilts Senior Cup at Woodmarsh tomorrow (kick-off 2pm), before playing them again in the league the week after and they then meet Stratton in the quarter finals of the league cup the following week.

Kirkpatrick said: "The next three games are absolutely massive for us. After these we will know a lot more about how our season is going."
