I WONDER if anyone can enlighten me as to the logic behind the recent changes to traffic flow at the junction of Market Street and Castle Street, Trowbridge.

As you will know there have been signs recently erected forbidding left turns for traffic, other than buses or taxis, wishing to go down this middle section of Castle Street to reach either the various shops or en-route to the multi-storey car park or continuing on to the County Way and the roundabout etc.

While this is very inconvenient for many intending to go in this direction the mind boggles at the planned chaos at the junction.

Not only is the driver of any vehicle unlikely to see the sign if behind a bus which is turning left, and which may in turn be following a taxi also turning left so that the warning is minimal but at the same time he or she must keep an eye out for people crossing the end of Market Street while also looking at the traffic in front and being ready to stop almost instantly if pedestrians start to use the crossing into/out of The Shires.

Such are the hazards that one wonders if the planners of this deliberate foolishness have interests in vehicle repairs to say nothing of the possible pain and injury to life and limb.

It would be interesting to hear the views of the rest of Castle Street and Fore Street which must now become totally clogged whenever a busy period occurs.

Goodness only knows how strangers from other places will be able to cope, I can see us locals having quite enough difficulty.
