MELKSHAM Town's Wiltshire Senior Cup first round tie at home to Highworth tomorrow will bring back some fond memories for midfielder Kevin Banks.

Banks, 22, scored Melksham's last goal in the 4-0 drubbing of Highworth in the semi-final of the competition last season and he is now hoping his side can repeat the success over their Hellenic League opponents.

Melksham went on to beat Trowbridge Town in the final and they start the defence of their trophy at The Conigre tomorrow.

Banks has only missed one match this season, the FA Cup tie against Mangotsfield, and together with Adi Stagg has proved the driving force of the Melksham team in the centre of midfield.

He has only scored once this season, the opener in their FA Vase defeat to Westbury, and is eager to add to that tomorrow.

He said: "I remember my goal against Highworth in the semi-final quite well as it was an important goal.

"It was the fourth of the game and sealed our place in the final of the competition which we went on to win.

"I would love to score against them again and help us earn a place in the second round."

Tomorrow's match will give people the opportunity to compare the strengths of the Screwfix Premier League and the Hellenic Premier League.

Highworth are in good form this season, especially in cup competitions, and they have already knocked Corsham Town out of the FA Vase.

Banks is certainly expecting a tough match.

He said: "I haven't seen much of them this season so it is hard to know what they will be like, but they have had some good results so far this season and so I am sure it will be a hard match."

With regards to their league form this season, Banks believes that Melksham's fortunes are looking up.

"We started off poorly, but things are looking up and we are starting to pick up points.

"It was hard early on but performances have definitely improved and we are now playing as a team."

Manager Nigel Tripp also remembers the match against Highworth with fond memories as he also got on the scoresheet against them.

Veteran striker John Freegard will miss the match after injuring an ankle in last week's draw at Welton.

Melksham are in cup action again on Monday night when they entertain Bridport in the first round of the Les Phillips Cup. Kick off is 7.30pm.
