ONLINE records of councillors' registered interests could cut down on unnecessary red tape, according to two Melksham politicians.
Terry Chivers and Angie Barker have joined forces to call for the registered interests of all west Wiltshire district and county councillors to be included on local authority websites.
Currently if members of the public want to see lists of interests they have to travel to County Hall or council offices in Bradley Road, Trowbridge.
Cllr Chivers said no councillor should object to the idea.
"It makes sense to place this information on-line. It isn't often members of the public request this information but it should be available for all to see," he said.
"None of us I am sure have anything to hide and we should be as open and accountable as possible. MPs do it so why not councillors?"
Cllr Barker said the idea was considered in the past but thrown out.
"I know the county council once considered this and decided against it. It seems silly that if a member of the public wants this information they have to travel to Trowbridge to get it," she said.
"So many people are now on-line it makes sense and could cut down on unnecessary traffic movements."
