WESTBURY United will be hoping Russell Fishlock's experience in the Wiltshire Senior Cup will help them see off Wroughton at Meadow Lane in the first round tomorrow.

The midfielder played an integral role in the Melksham side that lifted the trophy last season.

Fishlock said: "Obviously it is an important competition as the team that wins it can call themselves the top team in Wiltshire," he said.

"We seem to be doing well in the cup competitions having enjoyed a good FA Cup run before narrowly losing to Salisbury and we are still in the Vase.

"The league has to be our priority as we need to push for promotion but I don't see why this has to be at the expense of the cups."

Fishlock, 33, enjoyed spells at Salisbury City, Chippenham Town, Andover, Bemerton Heath, Trowbridge Town and Melksham before signing for Westbury in the summer.

He remembers the last time he faced Wiltshire League side Wroughton with mixed feelings.

"They nearly beat us," he said. "I was playing for Melksham against them in the Wilts Cup last season and they caused us all sorts of problems. We were 1-0 down in the 89th minute but finally managed to scramble a 2-1 win at full time.

"I am sure it will be another tough match and we can't afford to take them lightly."

Westbury's only injury doubt is Mark Pearce who has been struggling with a knock to the ankle but he is expected to recover.

Manager Derek Graham said: "It is a cup that we are very capable of winning so of course we will be taking it seriously.

"Wroughton play against our reserves in the Wiltshire League but we will not be taking them lightly."
