WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: HIGH winds and driving rain came out on top in the Wiltshire League, with just a handful of the scheduled fixtures getting the go-ahead.

One game that did beat the conditions was at Cricklade where the home side and visitors Bradford Town shared a cracking 4-4 draw.

The home side could not have got off to a worse start.

They went two down in the opening five minutes both goals coming from the visitors' top marksman Tom Pang.

It was then the turn of his opposite number, Ben Carter, who pulled a goal back and helped stage a revival that saw Bradford's Mark Barnett put through his own goal to bring the scores level.

Cricklade were awarded a penalty soon after the start of the second half, Carter making no mistake.

Back came the visitors and Barnett made amends for his earlier bloomer by putting the sides on level terms.

Matt Charlton handed the advantage back to the home side with a good strike for a fourth but, with the game in its closing stages, Mark Gerrish snatched a deserved equaliser.

Devizes Town Reserves also braved the gales and were rewarded with a 3-0 win over visitors Marlborough Town, David Hopkins, Robert Hannah and Jonathon Schofield the scorers.

Warminster Town, with help of the strong wind, built up a 4-0 interval lead at Pewsey Vale Reserves, Dave Watkins grabbing a hat-trick plus an own goal.

Pewsey fought back after the break and pulled goals back through Martin Pritchard and Gerry King.

However a late strike from Stuart Begg halted the home side's revival.

AFC Stratton's game with Chiseldon Castrol was postponed as was their nearest rivals Trowbridge Town's home game with Shrewton.

Trowbridge now have seven games in hand on leaders Stratton.

In Junior Division One, second-placed Bromham edged nearer the leaders following their 3-0 win over Marlborough Town Reserves, Lee Davies netting a first-half goal and Danny Powell and Andy Davies adding a couple more after the break.

Wroughton Reserves picked up a welcome three points against Sherston, beating the visitors 2-1, Matt Hibberd scoring both goals with Jason Selby on target for the visitors.

Conditions at Blunsdon were also difficult, but Wanborough's Neil Brimson broke the deadlock five minutes from time to seal the points.

Westside boss Joe O'Rourke and club officials from the club spent a couple of hours forking the pitch to allow their game against Down Ampney to go ahead, but both sides had to be content with a 0-0 draw.

And the Fountain Trophies quarter final tie between New College and Cricklade Town Reserves was abandoned after around 30 minutes play at 0-0.

Both semi-finals in the Wilts Junior Cup did go ahead, Junior One side Ferndale Rodbourne losing 5-2 to Rudloe at Warminster Town.

Ferndale took a two-goal lead through Robert Griffin and Arran Hellawell, but two goals in the last five minutes of the first half and three in a six-minute spell after the break killed off their hopes

Broughton Gifford accounted for Zurich 4-2 at Marlborough Town.

The two Trowbridge League sides will now meet in the final, expected to be played at Corsham Town's ground on Saturday April 17.
