SCREWFIX PREMIER DIVISION: TWO individual errors cost Melksham a share of the spoils in a game that was ruined by gale-force winds.

Exmouth scored a goal in each half and, although Melksham had some half-chances to get on the score-sheet, they returned to Wiltshire empty handed.

Manager Nigel Tripp was disappointed with the result but admitted he was starting to focus on next season.

He said: "The performance wasn't too bad but the windy conditions ruined the game. You go out and try to play football but the conditions are completely different to what used to and it makes it hard.

"You go up for a header but the ball moves about in the air and it was a very difficult game because of the conditions."

Tripp admitted it was frustrating that defensive errors had led to the defeat but he refused to blame the players.

"It was a couple of errors on our part but they were from two of the most reliable people we've had all season.

"Steve Casey misjudged a throughball and Carl Harfield pushed his man in the back to give away a penalty.

"Both sides had half chances but the wind ruined the game. We would have settled for a 0-0 draw because of the conditions and but for the mistakes we would have got that."

"We worked hard and tried hard but the result was disappointing."

Exmouth went into the game looking for a victory that would lift them into fourth place and a goal in each half helped them achieve that.

Both sides made great efforts to play good football but the wind and rain made it nigh on impossible.
