WILTSHIRE SENIOR CUP: CORSHAM Town continued their fine season by marching into the final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Goals from Alan Griffin, Nigel Curtis and Dave Kilmurray put Shrewton to the sword in this entertaining semi-final clash at Devizes Town's Nursteed Road ground.

Corsham manager Colin Bush was overjoyed at seeing his players book their place in the final which is likely to be played on his old stomping ground at Chippenham's Hardenhuish Park.

He said: "Any final is a good final and we've ended up in this one and we are absolutely delighted. We deserved it.

"Whether we go on to win the final is another matter but to get beaten in a semi-final could actually wreck your season.

"We can put this on the backburner now because it is in the bag for whenever they decide the date.

"To lose only three games in something like 25, like we have, you have got to get something at the end of the season. We thoroughly deserve this cup final."

Bush admitted Shrewton had put up a stiff resistance but he said his players held their own and were worthy of the win.

"Shrewton have got something about them but we have got a bit of steel about our side now and it went our way again."

Bush also praised the support the team received from the travelling Corsham faithful.

"To be fair, as the season has gone on we have picked up quite a lot of supporters who are quite happy to travel," he said.

"There was a lot of noise on Tuesday and most of it was coming from the Corsham supporters.

"Hopefully the final will be close to where we are and a lot of people will come along to support us."

"All in all, I was delighted with the way the lads shaped themselves.

"With less steel we would have lost, but we galvanised ourselves in the second half and you can't fault the players."

Corsham got the semi-final off to a dream start when they took the lead in the fifth minute.

Dave Kilmurray got a near-post flick on Frankie Coleman's cross and Alan Griffin took a touch before tapping in from close range.

Minutes later it was almost 2-0 when Nigel Curtis met Coleman's corner with a thumping header but Brian Blake cleared off the line.

Shrewton's front pairing of Dean Foot and Jesse Walters were mostly subdued but Corsham had to remain alert to their danger.

On 25 minutes Foot almost grabbed an equaliser from nothing when his cheeky 25-yard chip caught out goalkeeper Darryl Simms but hit the side-netting.

The equaliser arrived in the 38th minute but it really should have been 2-0 to Corsham by then.

Curtis headed down Russell Lodge's free-kick and Griffin's shot on the turn, beat the goalkeeper but hit the post. The rebound somehow eluded Kilmurray. Shrewton cleared their lines and, when the Corsham defence failed to deal with the long-ball, Walters buried a shot in via the post.

It was 1-1 at half-time and the third goal was always going to be vital. Fortunately for Corsham it went their way as early as the 48th minute.

Shrewton goalkeeper Adam Burwell flapped at a Lodge free-kick and Curtis was on hand to sweep home the loose ball.

Corsham had all the momentum with them and they made sure of their place in the final with a third just before the hour mark.

Griffin charged forward and side-stepped his man before facing the ball across goal for Kilmurray to slot into the net.

Shrewton looked short of ideas and Corsham could have extended their lead but Griffin hit the post from close-range following a superb cross by Scott Lye.

Corsham are without a game this weekend and are next in action when they entertain Clevedon United on April 2.
