UNTIL APRIL 3, BATH: Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society present the musical Jesus Christ Superstar in a stunning new production at the Theatre Royal.

The Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society presents Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Theatre Royal Bath from Tuesday to Saturday April 3 with a cast of 40 directed by John Cousins.

One of the longest-running West End musicals of all time, Jesus Christ Superstar is the epic re-telling of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.

Using captivating lyrics and phenomenal orchestration, the musical opened in 1971 and its instant box office success led to the film release in 1973. Since then this uniquely powerful and compelling musical has been shocking and moving audiences across the world.

Jesus Christ Superstar includes some of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's best loved songs including What's The Buzz, Hosanna, Gethsemane, and the show-stopping Superstar.

Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society have utilised the talents of Bristol director John Cousins to stage the musical, with Mike Blakemore as Jesus and Simon Vadakis as Judas Iscariot. These two talented performers first played the roles for the Bristol Light Operatic Company in 2002, taking the Hippodrome stage by storm. Alana Turnball, aged 17, from Bath will play the role of Mary Magdalene.

Backing the cast is a strong chorus of 40 singers and dancers of all ages recreating the congregation of antiquity. Played to professional standards, Jesus Christ Superstar has been produced by a dedicated team of professionals, including musical director Peter Blackwood and a full professional orchestra, working alongside local talent from Bath and the surrounding area.
