TERRY Rock operates a vital victim support service from a camper van but now he needs at least 10 more volunteers to extend the service.

Terry, 37, of Marston Meysey, is team leader of the Wiltshire Fire Victim Support Service, which offers immediate support and temporary shelter for people who have been victims of fire.

He said: "I'm trying to get this service running on a larger scale but I need more volunteers."

The courier has been running the service on a call-out basis for two years.

Volunteers who are on duty wear a pager linked to the local fire control unit. If the fire service decides the service will be needed staff page the volunteers who then offer help to the victims.

Mr Rock said: "The fire brigade are called out to put out the fire. We are called out to help the victims of fire.

"Once at the scene we provide a range of services from emotional support to giving out toiletries so that people can clean themselves up.

"We sort them out and give them aid until such time that they can sort themselves out.

"Fire can have devastating consequences."

The service also aims to offer alternative temporary accommodation to fire victims who cannot return to their homes.

In addition, they have clothing and Red Cross vouchers to give out.

At the moment there are only four volunteers and Terry wants another 10 to 15 come forward.

"Anyone with good people skills who enjoys a challenge with its own rewards is more than welcome to come forward," he said.

There will be a recruitment meeting at Westlea Fire Station on Saturday at 10am when Terry will be available to talk to potential volunteers.

If you are interested but cannot make the meeting call Terry on 07765 021133.
