MYSTERY still surrounds a series of sightings of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley around Swindon.

And now many suspicious minds have concluded there is more than one person masquerading as the King.

Fancy dress shops have reported an unusual surge in demand for Elvis costumes this week.

Adver reader Steve Phillips, of Purton, snapped one Elvis, complete with sequinned white jumpsuit, as he posed at the Commonhead Roundabout on Tuesday.

Rush-hour motorists have been left gaping after the pseudo-Presley popped up at various locations, including Bruce Street Bridges, Asda Wal-Mart and the Magic Roundabout.

Nicola McKinley, manager of Giant Party Shop in Victoria Road, is convinced the Elvis hired his costume from her shop.

She said: "I saw the Elvis picture in the Adver and recognised the suit, the gold medallion and the shoe, which is silver and black with a black star on front."

Ms McKinley refused to reveal the man's name but said he paid a £200 cash deposit because he didn't know how long he would need the costume. The amount covers the cost of the outfit.

She added: "I thought he would be back by now. He came in, said he needed an Elvis suit but didn't say why he wanted it."

Meanwhile, another Elvis, wearing a white jumpsuit with red jewels, was spotted yesterday morning in Old Town, accompanied by a yellow Mini advertising the Swindonweb website.

Luke Skywalker, owner of Skywalkers in Faringdon Road, has 20 Elvis costumes. He has five costumes out on hire and has sold five since the weekend.

If you can you shed any light on the mystery give the Adver newsdesk a call on 01793 501806.
