Cirencester continued their positive start to the season with conclusive victories for the first and second XIs on Saturday.

The first string beat newly promoted Churchdown.

Cirencester's openers made a steady start reaching 30 in the 10th over.

The loss of two wickets brought Richard Graham to the crease to face Micheluk's hat-trick ball.

The combination of the experienced Graham's elegant stroke play and positive running between the wickets and 15-year-old James Shackleton's correct and increasingly confident approach put together a stand of 60 in 16 overs to put the home team back on track.

When Shackleton was out for a well-constructed 31, young skipper Andy Reynolds joined Graham for a stand of 43 in eight overs.

Graham finally fell after producing 62 classy runs but Dan Robbins, playing the anchor role, proved an excellent foil for Reynolds.

They took the score to 183-5 in the penultimate over before Robbins and Dan Hudson notched 10 runs off the last nine balls to enable Cirencester to post the challenging total of 193-5.

Churchdown's top order struggled for runs against the accuracy of Jon Turner and the penetration of Shackleton and wickets fell at regular intervals.

Left arm spinner John Turton took over from Shackleton and, in his first outing of the season, quickly found the spot.

Bowling up the hill, Ollie Whitaker produced a spell of pace and accuracy to capture a deserved first five-wicket haul before Reynolds took the final wicket to deliver the second win of the season by the impressive margin of 65 runs.

Following a late withdrawal Ciren 2nd took to the field with nine men against Corse.

But 15-year-old Tom Putney struck two blows in quick succession to remove both Corse's openers.

The ball was not carrying through at a consistent height, some stopping and rising alarmingly with others keeping low.

Both bowlers were finding movement off of the pitch to add to the batsmen's discomfort and Tom Putney was also moving the ball in the air.

At the end of his first spell Putney had 2 for 10, Carter did for the home side's number three and two more wickets for Carter and three for Olly Grumbar, left Corse reeling at 57-8 in the 24th over.

Corse captain John Forsey stuck around and found an unlikely ally in number 10 Rowell.

But John McCosh and Mike Sollis cleaned up the tail.

Corse desperately needed to take early wickets and they duly took three. Sadly for the home side they found openers Rich Hudson and Simon Rowe in no mood to let the good work of their bowlers go to waste.

Rowe who took 20 runs from seven balls, faced in his last three overs before falling for 28.

David Shackleton joined Hudson and aided by a little width from the Corse bowlers, Town marched towards victory with Hudson reaching his 50 with a superb pull forward of square.
